Artist Statement
Isn’t it enticing and oddly intimate to get a short glimpse at night when all the indoor lights are on, into a neighbor’s window? What might their lives look like? - I ask myself. This experience strangely enough describes what I am interested in in filmmaking: Giving the audience a captivating glimpse into people’s lives. My own life has always been full of contrasts and contradictions, keeping things always on the go. I grew up between three different cultures, following my family constantly moving from one place to the other – with each change of place I discovered a new world. Today, through my films and my photography, the story worlds that I present can be as different as life itself ranging from dramatic to comedic, documentary, and surreal. The energetic and at the same time elegant style of my artistic language is an embodiment of my year-long love and practice of ballet dance. I want to move the audience in the same way I move my body through space when I dance – effortlessly, intensely, passionately.
I hope that by bringing my films and photography out into the world I can enrich people’s lives – reuniting contrasting experiences and making people see the world from a different, more hopeful perspective.
